We live in a European country that lost its path to democracy and progress. People that dare to say "No!" to tyranny get lost without a trace here. Journalists who are not afraid to tell the truth about the totalitarian regime to the people are being murdered. Recently criticizing the regime has become a crime one can be imprisoned for. This country is OUR Belarus! In OUR country, people cannot subscribe to the independent press. Now the Internet, the last source of impartial information, is in jeopardy. The government seeks to censor it. It is suspected that the Belarusian KGB is learning the Chinese experience of blocking the "undesirable" websites. They might have already acquired "The Great Chinese Firewall". The 16th day of every month is the day of Belarusian Solidarity. This is a day of solidarity with families of the missing Belarusian opposition leaders, with the prisoners of conscience who traded their liberty for bravery to speak up, and with freedom fighters of whose mysterious deaths we still have to find out. Every month thousands of people show their solidarity by lighting candles in their windows. More and more people join every month. On December 16, Internet-Community "The Third Way" (www.3dway.org) will light a candle of solidarity in the Internet. As in the real world, our window is not enough. We propose to you to join "the BYnet Solidarity". Change your main page on one of the following for one our from 19:30 until 20:30 GMT-2 in order to show those who still have doubts what the Internet will look like if censorship reaches it.
